Hockey: Warhawks’ home-opener spoiled by North Iowa, 5-3

Two late Bulls goals break a 3-3 tie late in third at Willmar

WILLMAR — The North Iowa Bulls broke open a tied game with two late goals Friday night at the Willmar Civic Center.

North Iowa beat the host Willmar WarHawks 5-3 in an NA3HL game.

The teams were tied 3-3 after Michael Sweetland scored his third goal of the season for the WarHawks, getting assists from Brady O’Brien and Ben Johnson at 13:49 of the third period.

Sweetland is a 5-foot-9,165-pound forward from Stillwater.

Then came the Brayden Uttech show. Uttech scored his third and fourth goals of the season for North Iowa, the first came at 14:38 of the third. The last came at 19:04 on the power play to seal the win for the West Division-leading Bulls (5-1-0-0).

Willmar (2-4-0-0) plays host to the New Ulm Steel at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Willmar Civic Center.
