SAUK RAPIDS — The Willmar WarHawks fell 6-1 to the Granite City Lumberjacks on Saturday night in a NA3HL game.
Granite City built a 4-0 lead midway through the second period before Willmar’s Michael Sweetland found the back of the net at 10:14. He was assisted on the goal by Kalbe Miller and Cayden Sunde. It was the second goal of the season for Sweetland, who is a 17-year-old forward from Stillwater.
Granite City tacked on two goals in the third period to put it away at the Armadillo Sports Deck Arena.
Granite City out-shot Willmar, 43-17. Tim Pundt made 16 saves for the Lumberjacks in the victory. Hunter Burian, an 18-year-old from Princeton, stopped 37 shots for Willmar.
Willmar has its home-opener scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Friday at the Willmar Civic Center Arena. The WarHawks play the North Iowa Bulls. The two teams also play at 7:10 p.m. Saturday in Willmar.
