WILLMAR — On Sunday, the Willmar WarHawks were able to get their first win in six tries against the North Iowa Bulls in overtime.

On Friday at the Willmar Civic Center, the WarHawks were hoping to once again clip the West Division-leading Bulls. But North Iowa held onto a close 2-1 victory, giving itself a 6-1 series lead in 2020-21.

The Bulls needed less than a minute to get the advantage when Jack Campion scored an unassisted goal at 0:52 of the first period.

Willmar knotted things up in the second as defenseman Ben Johnson, of Chisago Lakes, tallied his fourth goal of the year. Dylan Gajewski and Isaiah Thomas had assists on the play.

At 5:15 of the third, it was Crystal’s Carson Jones that scored the game-winner for the Bulls, with an assist going to Wayzata’s Cal Nauss.
