LINDSTROM — Two top-10 teams in Class A met up Monday for an early week girls hockey matchup as sixth-ranked Chisago Lakes was host to the ninth-ranked River Lakes Stars.
Led by a four-point evening from senior Danielle Burgen, the host Wildcats left the rink a 5-3 victor.
Burgen, a University of Minnesota-Duluth recruit, had two assists and a goal in the second period that put Chisago Lakes ahead 3-1. Then in the third, after the Stars’ Kianna Roeske cut the deficit to one, Burgen notched an unassisted power-play goal at 13 minutes, 53 seconds for the final score of the game.
Kayla Bluhm, Danielle Brunette and Aly Vogelsang also scored goals for the Wildcats, who got their first win of the 2021-22 season.
Roeske had a hand in all three of River Lakes’ goals. The Minnesota State-Mankato recruit scored twice, including a shorthanded goal. She also had an assist on a power-play goal from Ayla McLellan in the second.
Chisago Lakes had a 55-25 edge in shots on goal. Kaydence Roeske had 50 saves for the Stars while Brianna Ritter made 22 stops for the Wildcats.
Dropping its first game of the season, River Lakes will look to rebound with the Central Lakes Conference opener against Willmar at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Koronis Civic Arena in Paynesville.
