Only six times before has the Tribune area had a boys or girls basketball player amass 2,000-or-more points in a career. Bree Holleman, a senior guard for Hancock, is only the second female to accomplish the feat, surpassing the mark Tuesday night in a 76-43 non-conference win over Henning on the road.
The only other girl to reach the 2,000-point mark was another Hancock player. Courtney Brewer is currently atop the female leaderboard with 2,054 career points, a mark that Holleman will easily pass barring an injury.
On the boys side, Mike Felt (a 2009 graduate) of Redwood Valley is the Tribune's all-time scoring leader with 2,450 points. Bob Bruggers (1962) of Danube had 2,364, Jon Hagen (1957) of Belview had 2,198, Luke Jimenez (1996) of Redwood Valley had 2,189 and Bobby Beck (1992) of Lac qui Parle Valley had 2,092.
Holleman has been starting for the Owls since eighth grade and helped the team place second in the state in Class A as a freshman.
She scored her 2,000th point on a left-handed layup with 12:48 left in the game. She finished the game with 24 points and is currently at 2,003 for her career.

Hancock is currently 8-2.
BBE boys hot
The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa boys basketball team is currently riding a seven-game winning streak and is in a five-way battle for the Central Minnesota Conference title.
"We have a lot of weapons," said BBE coach Dave Montbriand. "Lately teams have been really keying on Matt Goodwin and Kevin Kuefler with box-and-ones, triangle-and-two, etc. The other guys have really stepped up."
Bennet Weller, Brady Koehler and Connor Goodwin have all had solid outings of late and have become offensive threats, said Montbriand. And he mentioned Kirby Montbriand and Brandon DeKok providing good punch off the bench.
The Jaguars are 4-1 in the Central Minnesota race and 10-2 overall. Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, which suffered its first conference loss of the season to BBE Tuesday night (HLWW won the first meeting 77-64 on Dec. 15 in Howard Lake), is also 4-1 in loop play, while Maple Lake and Rockford are 2-1 and Kimball is 2-2.
"I like our position right now," said Montbriand. "It looks like HLWW and us are the favorites. A long way to go, though."
BBE won the conference crowns last season, finishing with a 12-2 record.

Roster full of wrestlers
Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley paired in wrestling last season and now show one of the deepest squads in the area as evidenced by 30 different wrestlers having showed up in the box score this season. The next closest among the 18 wrestling teams in the coverage area is Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg with 23 and Montevideo has had 22. The lowest is Minnewaska Area with 13.
Twenty six of the 30 DB/LQPV wrestlers have been put out on the mat more than once. And 24 wrestlers have earned at least one win.
Ryan Swenson, who won the Class A 135-pound state title last winter, earned his 150th career win on Jan. 16. The DB/LQPV junior recently returned to action after breaking a bone in his hand in preseason practice. He is currently 11-0 this season.
Also, Sam Haas, a sophomore for DB/LQPV, recorded his 100th career win on Jan. 2. He has a 22-1 record to date.
Litch honoring 2000 boys team
The Litchfield boys basketball team will be honoring their 2000 state championship team in a pre-game ceremony Friday night when the Dragons take on Watertown-Mayer.
Litchfield defeated Waterville-Elysian in the 2000 Class AA championship game, 42-28.

Litchfield coach John Carlson said he expects 11 of the players to be back for the ceremony, including his sons, Alex, an assistant boys basketball coach at Sartell, and John, who just completed his second NFL season with the Seattle Seahawks.
"We're not going to introduce them individually," said the coach. "We're just going to recognize them all as a team."
Litchfield went 30-0 that season.
Wendlandt benefit slated for Sunday
There will be a benefit on Sunday for the Tim and Lisa Wendlandt family after their New London home was destroyed by fire on New Year's Eve and they lost the majority of their possessions, including their pets.
There will be a free-will donation chili feed at the American Legion Post 271 in Paynesville from noon-3:30 p.m.
Karli Wendlandt, a senior, is a starter on the New London-Spicer girls basketball team.
The family is registered at Menards, Herbergers, Target and Walmart in Willmar.
