Junior hockey: Mason City Toros rally to beat Willmar WarHawks

WILLMAR — The Willmar WarHawks will have to settle for a split in their home series with the Mason City Toros.

Mason City scored three unanswered goals in the third period to beat the WarHawks 5-4 in an NA3HL game before 577 fans Saturday night at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.

Willmar beat the Toros 4-3 on Friday night.

The WarHawks led 4-2 after two periods Saturday. Willmar got goals from Sam Holm, Christian Kandelfrlitz, Connor Garcia and Luke McCarthy to claim the lead.

But, Mason City came back in the third with goals from Matt Konchanowski, Nolan Christy and Cullen Hogan to earn the win. Hogan’s goal, his 11th of the season, came 9:26 with assists from Carter New power and Easton Tok.

The WarHawks out-shot Mason City 40-33.

Willmar’s next game is against the New Ulm Steal at 7:10 p.m. Friday at the New Ulm Civic Center. The teams then play at 7:10 p.m. Saturday at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.
