Mason City takes a big lead through 2 periods to put away Willmar, 6-1

WILLMAR — The Mason City Toros opened with four goals on the way to their fourth straight win.

In front of 150 fans Wednesday at the Willmar Civic Center Arena, Mason City scored four consecutive goals over the first two periods to build an insurmountable lead. They went on to beat the Willmar WarHawks 6-1.

The Toros’ Petr Lukes scored a pair of goals. Colin Hedland, Hayden Siegel, Matt Kochanowski, and Cal Levis III also put up scores for Mason City.

Will Kunka made 25 saves in net to get the win for the Toros. Kunka played for Willmar in 2021-22.

The WarHawks got their lone goal early in the third period. On the power play, Tyler Misialek tallied his fifth goal of the season at the 3-minute, 7-second mark of the third. Misialek is a forward from Fargo, North Dakota. Michael Sweetland and Nik Johnson each were credited with assists on the play.

Mason City is 3-1-0 against Willmar this season.

The WarHawks open a two-game series with the Oregion Tradesman at 7:10 p.m. Friday in Oregon, Wisconsin.
