Junior Hockey: Quick start paces Willmar WarHawks, 5-4

Willmar beats the Butte Cobras in NA3HL Showcase at the National Sports Center in Blaine

BLAINE — The WarHawks utilized a two-goal first period en route to a 5-4 victory over the Butte Cobras on Tuesday in the 2022 NA3HL Showcase.

Willmar forwards Tyler Misialek and Blaise Schutt both found the back of the net twice in the win. Misialek has nine goals in 22 games. Schutt has four goals in four games since joining the WarHawks on Dec. 14.

Misialek and Schutt both found the back of the net in the first period to give Willmar a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Schutt’s second goal of the contest was the game-winner.

Three other WarHawks notched multi-point performances. Christian Kankelfritz, Sam Holm and Braydon Buckingham each had two assists.

Zachary Ortolano, a goaltender from Las Vegas, Nevada, made 25 saves on 29 shots faced for Willmar.

The WarHawks (11-14-1-0) are off until January. Willmar next plays at 7:10 p.m. Jan. 6 against the Granite City Lumberjacks at the Willmar Civic Center.
