Gajewski's hat trick pushes Willmar past North Iowa, 4-2

MASON CITY, Iowa — The Willmar Warhawks snapped a three-game losing streak after beating North Iowa 4-2 at Mason City Arena.

Despite being outshot 32-21, Willmar jumped out to a 4-0 lead with the first three goals scored by Dylan Gajewski.

Lamping the lamp 10 seconds into the game and again with over three minutes left in the first period, Gajewski completed the hat trick 6:42 into the second after getting an assist from Hunter Bjorge.

Lewis Rowan extended the Warhawks advantage nearly four minutes later. Isaiah Thomas delivered the helper on Rowan’s goal and finished with three assists.

Lukas Haugen collected 30 saves to improve to 4-4 in net this season.


The WarHawks are in a stretch where they play four games in four nights. The next three are at the Willmar Civic Center Arena. At 7:10 p.m. Friday, Willmar is host to the New Ulm Steel. North Iowa comes to town for a 7:10 p.m. game Saturday. And at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, the Bulls and WarHawks play again in Willmar.
