MASON CITY, Iowa — Carter Newpower scored at 1:02 of overtime to lift the Mason City Toros past the Willmar WarHawks in an NA3HL game on Sunday.
Newpower finished with a goal and two assists for Mason City. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound forward from Cottage Grove has 15 goals and 39 assists in 33 games. He’s also the Toros’ captain.
Willmar built a 3-2 second-period lead with three goals. Jake Hosszu scored on the power play and then Luke McCarthy gave the WarHawks a 2-1 lead at 4:39. After Matt Kochanowski tied it up for Mason City, Sam Holm scored a shorthanded goal at 19:05, getting assists from McCarthy and Jordan Fields.
The game was played before 350 fans at the Mason City Arena.
Willmar plays the Granite City Lumberjacks at 7:10 p.m. Friday at the Willmar Civic Arena. The WarHawks then face the Minnesota Loons at 7;30 p.m. Saturday at the Breezy Point Hockey Center.
