Junior Hockey: Willmar WarHawks make it two in a row against New Ulm

Willmar beats New Ulm 5-2 in an NA3HL game

WILLMAR — The Willmar WarHawks had five players score goals and strong goaltending from Will Pinney to beat the New Ulm Steel, 5-2.

Willmar (4-1) won the NA3HL game before an announced crowd of 250 at the Willmar Civic Center Arena.

The WarHawks’ goals came from Brady O’Brien, Max Cohen, Elbridge Dekraai, Nolan Grier and Ethan Mock.

O’Brien also had an assist. He’s a defenseman from White Bear Lake. Cohen is a forward from Commerce, Michigan. DeKraai is a forward from Willmar who now has three goals and six assists in five games with the Warhawks this season. Grier is a forward from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Mock is a defenseman from Bemidji.

Pinney, from St. Louis Park, stopped 26 of 28 shots to improve his record to 1-1 with a 3.01 goals-against average.

It’s the second time this season the teams have met. Willmar opened the season with a 4-1 win Sept. 18 at New Ulm.

Willmar plays the Alexandria Blizzard at 7:10 p.m. Saturday at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria.
