Juniors: Lukas Hagen is tough in the net for the Willmar WarHawks

Goaltender makes 43 saves in a 3-1 win over the Granite City Lumberjacks on Wednesday in Sauk Rapids.

SAUK RAPIDS — The Willmar WarHawks got some strong goaltending to beat the Granite City Lumberjacks 3-1 Wednesday night at the Armadillo Deck Sports Arena.

Lukas Haugen stopped 43 of 44 shots to earn the victory for the WarHawks. The 20-year-old from Excelsior now has a 6-6 record in NA3HL play with a 2.24 goals-against average and a .931 save percentage for Willmar.

The WarHawks got goals from Cole Wigestrand, Ethan Mock and Isaiah Thomas. Wigestrand opened the scoring at 9:19 of the first. It was the 20-year-old’s eighth goal of the season. He’s a forward from Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Ethan Mock scored at 3:10 of the second period for Willmar. It was the 19-year-old defenseman’s third goal of the year. He’s from Bemidji.

Isaiah Thomas closed out the scoring with his sixth goal at 19:48 of the third. He’s a 21-year-old forward from Bismarck, N.D.

The WarHawks next play at 8:10 p.m. Saturday against the Alexandria Blizzard at Alexandria’s Runestone Community Center. They then close the regular season against the New Ulm Steel at 7 p.m. Sunday at the New Ulm Civic Center.
