WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents and visitors about low water levels at area lakes that increase the likelihood of a boat being damaged, according to a Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office news release.

According to the release, the Sheriff’s Office has received several calls about the low rainfall totals and possible damage to watercraft.

The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging people to pay special attention when operating a watercraft in areas marked with “danger” or hazard buoys.

“Due to the low water levels, new rocks and obstructions have emerged and could pose a threat to boaters and watercraft,” read the release.

The Sheriff’s Office also recommends boaters travel at a greater distance from shore to use GPS and depth gauge systems to avoid damage to watercraft and possible injury to boaters.
