KERKHOVEN -- Katelyn Lottman, a 5-11 senior middle hitter from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, had 12 ace serves in a three-game non-conference volleyball match recently against Lac qui Parle Valley, the most produced from an area player in a three-game match in nearly two decades. She also had 12 kills that night.
"She's got an unbelievable top-spin serve and also does a cut serve that drops down in a hurry," said KMS coach Eileen Suter. "It's not a jump serve. She actually takes a half step and swings hard using her leverage."
Lottman might have had a chance at the area record of 14 had the team not served out of rotation once and Lottman lost her turn.
Lottman had six ace serves against Central Minnesota Christian and five against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, both in Camden Conference matches, and also five in a non-conference match against Bertha-Hewitt.
"We usually get a lot of free balls off her serve," Suter said. "She's also a good passer in the back row so if teams try to pick on her, that usually doesn't work either."
