PAYNESVILLE — Jordan Sagedahl’s three-run triple in the top of the eighth inning helped the BOLD Legion team overcome Paynesville 9-5 in the Central Sub-State playoff final on Thursday.
Paynesville won 5-4 in Game 1 to force a second game.
BOLD moves on to the Sub-Section championship and plays a best two-of-three series against Albany beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday in St. Martin. A second game follows on Saturday, and a third game, if needed, is Sunday.
In Thursday’s second game, BOLD built leads of 3-0 and 5-1 before Paynesville rallied to tie the game with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. BOLD center fielder Luke Ryan made a superb throw home to get a runner during the inning to hold Paynesville to four runs.
In the top of the eighth, Sagedahl’s three-run triple made it 8-5 BOLD and Jack Peppel singled in Sagedahl.

Willmar Legion Post 167 rebounded from a tough loss to Delano in Thursday’s Sub-State 15 winners bracket second round to down Cokato/Maple Plain and earn a spot in the losers bracket final on Friday in Waconia.
Jayden Dierenfeld, Andy Schultz and Gunnar Banks all had two hits and drove in runs and Brady Bauman doubled and drove in two runs.
Dierenfeld got the win. All five runs C/MP runs were unearned. He worked 5-1/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight. Bryan Weidemann finished for the save.
Willmar plays Marshall in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Friday. The winner of that game plays at 7 p.m. Friday against the loser of a winners bracket game between Delano and Buffalo.
The Sub-State 15 championship is 1 p.m. Saturday, with a second game to follow if needed.

Willmar Legion Post 167 lost a heartbreaker in the Sub-State 15 winners bracket on Thursday in Waconia.
Willmar starter Bryan Weidemann and Delano’s Michael Weber battled through 6-1/2 scoreless innings. Weidemann allowed just an unearned run on three hits while Weber four-hit Post 167 and struck out five.

In the bottom of the seventh, Delano’s Keagan Smith doubled to left field leading off the inning. He moved up on a passed ball and scored on Reno Bredahl’s single to center.
Tanner Bauman, Jayden Dierenfeld, Andy Schultz and Brady Bauman had Willmar’s hits.

Willmar poured it on early and kept it up in the latter innings to blast La Crosse on Thursday night at Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar.
Sam Baier had two hits and drove in three runs and Branden Boissiere doubled, walked four times and drove in two runs. Chase Stanke also had two hits and drove in a run, and James Gamble had a hit and two RBIs.
Willmar starter Masen Palmier got the win, working seven innings and allowing just one earned run and striking out seven. Josh Wintroub finished, allowing a hit in two innings.
The Stingers and La Crosse play again at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Taunton.
