Legion Baseball Roundup: BOLD shuts down Morris, Willmar clubs Litchfield

MONTEVIDEO -- BOLD moved a step closer to a Legion state tournament berth by defeating Morris 10-0 in six innings in a Division II, District 7 Final Four winners' bracket game on Thursday.

BOLD’s Ben Steffel allowed just five hits in the six-inning game and he also drove in a run and scored another.
Logan Nissen had a double and drove in three runs and Lane Stadther was 2-for-4 and scored four runs.
Undefeated BOLD awaits the winner of today’s game pitting Morris against Glenwood, and interesting state tournament implications are at play.
Morris is the host of this year’s Division II tournament and receives an automatic berth.
If Morris defeats Glenwood in today’s elimination game, BOLD is assured a state tournament berth since the district sends the next highest ranking team, with the host getting the automatice berth.
Morris at Glenwood play at 6:30 p.m. today in Montevideo. The winner would have to defeat BOLD twice on Saturday to win the district crown. BOLD plays the winner at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Glenwood stayed alive in the Division II, District 7 Final Four with a losers’ bracket win over Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday.
Glenwood’s Riley Thompson allowed just four hits and didn’t issue a walk. He struck out five.
Glenwood scored both runs in the second inning. Justin Amundson singled, stole second and moved to third on Matt McIver’s single.
McIver stole second and Ryder Lynk singled to right field to bring in Amundson, and McIver scampered home on an error on the play.
Michael Gruber was 2-for-4 with a double and Jon Nygaard, Thompson, and Luke Nielson had Glenwood’s other hits.
Glenwood plays the loser of the winners’ bracket game between BOLD and Morris at 6:30 p.m. today in Montevideo.

Willmar 11, Litchfield 1
MARSHALL - After an opening-round loss to Marshall, the Willmar Legion team rebounded with two victories on Thursday to advance to the losers’ bracket semifinals in the Division I, District 15 playoffs.
Willmar’s Adam Nibaur worked six strong innings, and Austin Smith closed out Litchfield in the seventh in an 11-1 win.
Earlier in the day, Willmar cruised by Worthington 14-10 in the losers’ bracket opener.
Willmar plays Waconia in the losers’ bracket semifinals at 4 p.m. today in Marshall.

Cold Spring 22, Litchfield 10
Cold Spring’s offense exploded, sending Litchfield into the losers’ bracket of the Division 1, District 15 tournament on Thursday.
Litchfield’s Jake Schultz had two hits and two runs scored, and Carson Deal was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
