MORRIS - Bryce Jergenson tossed a no-hitter and VFW call-up Denner Daugherty went 4-for-4 to help Morris shut out Kerkhoven 10-0 Tuesday in its opener.
Jergenson did walk four batters, but recent Morris Area High School graduate struck out nine and got plenty of support in the six-inning contest.
Morris batted nine in a three-run first inning and a five-run fifth. Daugherty laced a two-run single in the first, singled in another run in the third and ended the game in the sixth with a one-out single that knocked in Noah Grove.
Corey Storck added RBI singles in the first and fifth, and Joey Dufault scored twice by supplying Morris with two singles. Also driving in runs in the fifth with singles were Ryan Dietz and Ryan Bowman.
Morris is at Brandon-Evansville on Thursday, while Kerkhoven will be playing its third game in four days on Thursday on the road against Eden Valley-Watkins.

Markus Kranz had three hits and drove in two runs and Zac Enevoldsen and Jordan Thompson also drove in runs to lead Montevideo to the victory on Tuesday.
Montevideo, now 2-0, plays at Willmar at 6:30 p.m. today at Baker Field.

Ricky Schmitz allowed one hit in three scoreless innings and worked around four walks to pick up the victory.

Sacred Heart/MACCRAY trailed by three entering the bottom of the sixth, but the Scarlets caught up and then some to earn their first Legion win of the season.
The Scarlets scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and Connor Cronen pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

Cheyton Homan had three hits and drove in four runs, Carter Asche was 2-for-3 and had two RBIs and Derick Sommers, Griffin Schaub and Tyler Moffenbier all had two hits and drove in a run.
The Scarlets, now 1-1, play at Madison at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Granite Falls scored twice in the home half of the first inning, but Cottonwood then scored three times in the third to start taking control. A four-run seventh supplied the visitors plenty of insurance.
Granite Falls outhit Cottonwood 5-3, but two Granite Falls pitchers combined to issue 16 walks while Cottonwood starter and winner Seth Boerboom walked only two while striking out four.
Jordan Odegard and Austin Vikander had two hits each and Zach Fischer added a single for Granite Falls.
