WACONIA — A Willmar error and Gunnar Paulson’s run-scoring single led to two Delano runs in the bottom of the 10th inning and an 8-7 win over Legion Post 167 in a Sub-State 15 elimination game on Friday.
The loss ended Willmar’s season while Delano goes on to face Buffalo in the championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday. Buffalo is undefeated and Delano would need to win twice on Saturday to advance. Buffalo defeated Delano earlier on Friday to advance to the final.
It was Willmar second one-run loss to Delano in the playoffs. Delano defeated Willmar 1-0 in the sub-state quarterfinals on Thursday. Post 167 rebounded with a 10-3 win over Marshall in the losers bracket final on Friday to get another shot at Delano.
Delano and Willmar were tied 6-6 heading into extra innings. Willmar tied the game in the top of the seventh inning when Bryan Weidemann reached on an error and Tanner Bauman singled. After a fielder’s choice, Jayden Dierenfeld singled in Weidemann with the tying run.
Willmar took a 7-6 lead in the top of the 10th in Caleb Ditmarson’s solo home run.

Dierenfeld had three hits and drove in four runs, Ditmarson had two hits and three RBIs and Ashton Gregory was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Willmar earned its way to a rematch with Delano by thumping Marshall in the Sub-State 15 losers bracket final on Friday.
Willmar’s Drey Dirksen homered and drove in three runs and Caleb Ditmarson had three its, including a triple and a double, and he scored twice. Gunnar Banks was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and he scored two runs. Ashton Gregory and A.J. Backes both had two hits.
Tanner Bauman worked six innings and struck out six to get the win.

Osakis got both its hits and runs in the first inning and two pitchers made them stand up in a Legion win over Kerkhoven in the West Central Sub-State playoffs on Friday.
Osakis’ Hunter Intenger singled, Luke Imdieke walked, both moved up a base on a wild pitch and both scored on Mason Moore’s single.

Carter Rost allowed eight hits but just one run and struck out nine in 5-2/3 innings. Imdieke finished to get the save.
Kerkhoven scored its lone run in the second when Levi Sweere was hit by a pitch, moved to third on two ground outs and scored on Chris Moist’s single to center.
Regan Carlson took a tough loss, working six innings and allowing just the two runs, two hits and he struck out seven.

PAYNESVILLE — Jordan Sagedahl’s three-run triple in the top of the eighth inning helped the BOLD Legion team overcome Paynesville 9-5 in the Central Sub-State playoff final on Thursday.
Paynesville won 5-4 in Game 1 to force a second game.
BOLD moves on to the Sub-Section championship and plays a best two-of-three series against Albany beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday in St. Martin. A second game follows on Saturday, and a third game, if needed, is Sunday.

In Thursday’s second game, BOLD built leads of 3-0 and 5-1 before Paynesville rallied to tie the game with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. BOLD center fielder Luke Ryan made a superb throw home to get a runner during the inning to hold Paynesville to four runs.
In the top of the eighth, Sagedahl’s three-run triple made it 8-5 BOLD and Jack Peppel singled in Sagedahl.

La Crosse took command with a six-run third inning and Willmar couldn’t catch up in a Northwoods League game on Friday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
Willmar took a 1-0 lead in the first and got another back in the bottom of the inning after the Loggers’ outburst in the third. But the Stingers couldn’t get anything going offensively until after La Crosse padded its lead with two more runs in the top of the seventh.
Willmar’s Riley Johnson and Luke Bowman both had two hits and combined to drive in all four Stingers runs.
The Stingers hit the road for five days, starting with a 6:05 p.m. game at Bismarck on Saturday. The Stingers and the Larks play a 1:05 p.m. game on Sunday. Willmar then plays four games at Eau Claire in three days, with single games on Monday and Wednesday and a doubleheader on Tuesday.
