Legion baseball: Willmar's bats come alive

Post 167 shells Cold Spring Post 455 10-0 in five innings at Bill Taunton Stadium.

WILLMAR — The bats came alive after two consecutive shutout innings to start the game, but it only showed for the home team.

Willmar Post 167 dominated Cold Spring Post 455 in a 10-0 win that saw the matchup reach five innings Wednesday evening at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Hunter Magnuson led the way on both sides of the baseball for Willmar.

Magnuson pitched all five innings, holding to three hits. He struck out 10 and walked two.

The 2021 Willmar Senior High graduate also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a blazing home run and one walk, recording five RBIs and scoring a run.

The rout began when Sam Etterman, who went 2-for-3, reached home to score Willmar’s first run in the third inning. He later added two more runs in the win.

The duo of Etterman and Magnuson combined for four of Willmar’s nine hits. Seven of 11 batters recorded a hit for Post 167.Ian Koosman and Cayden Hansen both recorded two RBIs for Willmar.

Thad Lieser, Brady Schafer and Beck Loesch had hits for Cold Spring.

Post 167 heads to the Marshall Wood Bat Tournament on Friday through Sunday.
