Legion/VFW baseball roundup: Willmar VFW scores big early in win

Post 1639 gets six runs in the second inning on its way to a 9-6 victory over Paynesville. Sacred Heart/MACCRAY American Legion beats Redwood Falls 17-6 in six innings.

WILLMAR — The Willmar VFW team used a six-run second inning to take control of its game with Paynesville on Monday night at Bill Taunton Stadium.

It led Post 1639 to a 9-6 win over the visitors.

Finley Donelan led the way for Willmar. He went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Dylan Staska, Cullen Gregory and Ethan Riemersma all had two hits for Post 1639.

Willmar (5-5) plays host to Litchfield, at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Tyler Amsden and Joe Heidecker hit home runs to lead Sacred Heart/MACCRAY to the six-inning victory at Redwood Falls.

Amsden finished 3-for-5 with three runs, three BIS and a double. Dreyer Homan was 3-for-5 with a double, four runs and three RBIs for SH/MACCRAY.

Litchfield 21, BOLD 4

BOLD finished 0-3 at the Mudhen Classic on Sunday at Bird Island with the six-inning loss to Litchfield.

BOLD lost to West St. Paul 10-0 on Saturday and 11-0 in five innings to Annandale on Friday.

For the three-game tournament, Tate Sheehan was 4-for-9 with a double and RBI for the Mudhens. Lane Osterfeld went 3-for-8 with a double for BOLD.
