Litchfield tennis easily wins WCC meet

NEW LONDON--All four Litchfield singles players and all three Dragons' doubles team were unbeaten in two matches and won championships at a Wright County Conference meet on Thursday.

Willmar 4, Alexandria 3

All of Willmar's singles players were able to secure wins on Thursday, leading the Cardinals to a 4-3 Central Lakes Conference win over Alexandria.

At number two singles, Chloe Hansen managed to rebound from a second-set loss to beat Laura Wilmesmeier in the final set. Lydia Morrell, Ashley Prahl and Alyssa Morrell also managed to get in the win column.

On Tuesday, the Cardinals wrap up the regular season with a match at St. Cloud Tech.

Winning three out of four in singles play, Yellow Medicine East secured a tight 4-3 win against Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd on Thursday.

The Sting were 2-0 in three-set singles matches, with Emily Johnson and Chelsea Hoernemann clinching the close victories.

Both teams are set to compete in the West Central Conference tournament Saturday in Alexandria.

Benson/KMS wrapped up the regular season with a 7-1 mark in the West Central Conference following a 6-1 win over Sauk Centre on Thursday.

Sweeping singles competition, Gracie Lenz got the most decisive win at number two singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Benson/KMS will compete in the West Central Conference tournament Saturday in Alexandria. Section 5A seeding will be announced Monday, and first-round matches will take place on Oct. 4.

Nassir Hassan scored Willmar's goal in the 66th minute on an assist from Cesar Leiva.

The Cardinals play Alexandria at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Kennedy School field in Willmar.

The Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd boys and girls teams swept to victories at the Yellow Medicine East Invitational on Thursday.

The LQPV/DB boys team placed four runners in the top five, led by race winner Mike Kvaal.

Canby/Minneota's Grace Drietz won the girls race but LQPV/DB's Isabel Schirm placed second and Anika Fernholz placed fourth.
