LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield volleyball team is on a roll.

After dropping the season-opener to 10th-ranked (Class AA) New London-Spicer, the Dragons have won their last three matches.

Their latest victory came against Rockford on Monday. In a match that got tighter as it moved along, Litchfield collected a 3-0 Wright County Conference victory from Litchfield High School. The set scores were 25-20, 25-22 and 26-24.

Senior outside hitter Sydney McCann and senior setter Kristin Foley led the home team. McCann produced team-highs with 11 kills and 14 digs. Pacing the hosts with 26 assists, Foley added 11 kills and a Dragons-best three ace serves.

Trailing early in the first set, Litchfield jumped ahead 14-12 after the Rockets committed three unforced errors. Rockford called a timeout, but could not close the gap. Highlighted by a kill from senior middle hitter Alexis Hansen, the Dragons extended their advantage to 23-17 before closing out the set on a kill from senior middle hitter Rachel Foley.

Rockford trailed early in the second set before surging ahead 10-9 following a five-point run. Litchfield responded with a 6-0 run capped by a Kristin Foley kill. This time, the visitors weren’t as easy to shake. Tying the set twice, the Rockets went ahead 22-21.

The Dragons showed resilience to capture the middle set. A Hansen kill tied the score at 22-22. Back-to-back kills from Lily Osterberg gave the hosts a much-needed cushion. The second Osterberg’s kills landed just inbounds at the end of a long rally.Litchfield secured the second set after a Rockets net violation.

Osterberg finished with eight kills and nine digs. Sophomore middle hitter Greta Hansen chipped in 10 kills.

The two teams play again at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rockford.

A strong second half propelled Community Christian past Faith Christian of Foreston in a Christian Athletic League match in Willmar.

The Eagles broke open a 3-3 halftime tie with three second-half goals to Faith Christian’s one.

Three players scored goals for Community Christian. Luke Taylor had three goals. Will Chapin added two and Mark Arnold had one. Landon Holmgren had an assist for the Eagles, who got two saves in net from Juan Ramirez.
