ACGC 4, Springfield 2

Kobe Holtz carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and ACGC scored a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings to down Springfield Tuesday and earn a shot at the Section 2A championship on Thursday in Mankato.

The Falcons play Martin Luther/GHEC/Truman in the title game at 5 p.m. Thursday at Franklin Rogers Park. ACGC, which lost to ML/GHEC/T 5-1 in the winners bracket final on Saturday, must beat the Jaguars twice to advance to the Class A state tournament. If the Falcons win the first game, a second game is set for 5:30 p.m.

Earlier Tuesday, Springfield won an elimination game over Sleepy Eye-St. Mary's 5-3.

Despite the no-hitter, Holtz reached his 115-pitch limit and had to leave the mound.

"He was throwing as hard in the first inning as he was in the seventh," ACGC head coach Mike Kingery said. "They had no chance on him."

Springfield scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and had two runners on with two out when the game ended in strange fashion.

Springfield had runners on first and third with two outs and the trailing runner took off for second. ACGC made no play on the runner but after reaching the bag the runner turned and headed back to first, possibly thinking the pitch was fouled off.

Catcher Jaren Kaddatz threw the ball back to pitcher Michael Dallmann, who then threw to shortstop David Kingery at second and he threw to Noah Cunningham at first for the putout that ended the game.

"I've seen a lot of baseball games and I've never seen that before," Mike Kingery said. "(Coaches) were in the dugout talking about walking the next guy to load the bases and the next thing we were jumping up and down."
