MADISON - Kelsea Lund scored her 2,000th career point and No. 7 Lac qui Parle Valley made a statement with a 66-60 win over No. 8 Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Monday night.
Lund, who sealed the victory earlier at the free-throw line, hit the first of a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to become just the fifth area girls player all-time to reach 2,000 points.
"It was a well-deserved moment for her," Eagles head coach John Nolte said. "Not many players get to that point. It's not like she just shows up to the gym and gets to that point. It's because of how much time she spends on her own working on her game. What an achievement for her."
LQPV improved to 13-1 with the win and handed the Warriors their first loss of the season.
"We haven't had to deal with constant pressure like that for an entire game yet," Nolte said. "Learning to play like that is a really good opportunity for us."

Lindsay Kranz scored 16 points to lead to the Eagles, who also got 14 points from Haley Wollschlager.
Lund scored 12 points, but was scoreless at the end of the first half. The senior guard got things going with a 3-pointer midway through the half and added 10 assists for a double-double.
"What a way to show that you're an all-around player," Nolte said. "Maybe not your best scoring night and she didn't really shoot that well, but to get your teammates easy baskets, that's big."
