ST. CLOUD - New London-Spicer finished up their first trip to the Class AA state tournament with a loss to Rochester Lourdes in the fifth-place game on Friday.

New London-Spicer won the first game of the consolation bracket 8-4 over Belle Plaine thanks to strong defense and late hitting.

Rochester Lourdes scored five runs in the third inning to set the tone early and added two in the fourth inning and four in the final frame.

Jake Schmidt, Derek Dolezal and John Perkins all finished with multi-hit games but four team errors proved to be damaging for the Wildcats in their quest for hardware.

Against Belle Plaine, the Wildcats tagged Tiger reliever Jonathan Schmidt for five runs without recording an out in the fifth inning and that proved to be enough for the victory.

Evan Haugen earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts in the game's final 2-2/3 innings and he was just as strong at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored..

Bismarck 2, Willmar 1

The Willmar Stingers could not quite figure out Bismarck starting pitcher Micah Beyer on Friday night, eventually falling 2-1 to the Larks in a game played at Knute Nelson Park in Alexandria.

Beyer threw seven scoreless frames for Bismarck, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out three.

The Larks tallied one run off Stingers starter Blake Stockert in the fourth inning, and then added a pivotal insurance run in the eighth that would prove to be the difference in the game.

Stockers threw effectively for the Stingers, but picked up a tough-luck loss. The left-hander allowed just the one run on five hits in six innings.

Willmar's run came following a two-out rally and a Rob Emery single and error that allowed Josh Bissonette to score. The tying run was 90 feet away for Caleb Ledbetter, who grounded out to first base to end the threat.

BOLD 5, Litchfield 3

The BOLD Mudhens tagged Litchfield starter Owen Boerema for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead and the win at their own BOLD Mudhen Invitational on Friday.

Boerema collected two hits of his own at the plate and was cruising in the first five innings but the Mudhens figured out their opponent in the 5-3 win. Luke Ryan was one of those strong hitters for BOLD with three of his team's eight hits.

Hayden Tersteeg allowed 11 Litchfield hits but kept the damage to a minimum in a complete game victory.
