Local Roundup: Willmar softball team drops pair to Tech

WILLMAR - St. Cloud Tech jumped out to an early lead and never relented in the second game of a Central Lakes Conference doubleheader to complete a sweep of Willmar on Monday at the Willmar High School fields.

Tech won Game One 14-2 and took the second game 9-2.

In the doubleheader, the Tigers' Bryana Lommel had four hits - including two home runs and six runs batted in in the second game - and drove in nine runs.

Willmar's Larady Lange had a hit and an RBI in the second game and Amanda Zuidema was 3-for-3 with an RBI in the first game.

The Cardinals travel to play another CLC doubleheader at Fergus Falls at 4 p.m. today.

Saturday's Results

MCA Tournament

Annandale won the Morris/Chokio-Alberta Softball Tournament on Saturday in Morris.

Annandale defeated Wheaton/Herman-Norcross 10-0 in the opening round, then downed Proctor 7-0 in the winners' bracket before defeating Morris/Chokio-Alberta 5-1 to clinch the championship.

MCA defeated PACT Charter 8-1 to open the tournament, then advanced to the championship game with a 12-2 win over Moorhead.

For the Tigers in the three games, Bailey Marty was 5-for-11, Brooke Gillespie was 6-for-10 and Ashley Solvie was 5-for-8.

Gillespie got the win against Moorhead, working 6.1 innings and allowing two hits while striking out four.

Ashley Solvie got the win against PACT, firing a three-hitter and striking out four. Liz Dietz took the loss against Annandale, allowing three hits and striking out four.

A couple hits and errors helped Minneota score four extra-inning runs and defeat Lac qui Parle Valley in a Camden Conference game on Monday in Madison.

The teams were tied 2-2 in the eighth when the Vikings got a lead-off single, a sacrifice bunt attempt and an Eagles throwing error that allowed the winning run in. LQPV committed six errors.

The Eagles' Braiden Kittelson was 2-for-4 and drove in a run and Peyton Mortenson took a tough loss, working 7.1 innings and allowing just one earned run.

LQPV plays host to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Madison.

The Ridgewater softball team rebounded from a Game One loss to hammer Minnesota West on Saturday in Worthington.

The Warriors Kaitlynn Kienholz was 4-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and she scored four runs.

Natalie Neumann, the winning pitcher, was 5-for-5 with an RBI and she scored four runs.

Hannah Nelson had two hits and drove in four runs.

Neumann allowed four hits and struck out two.
