LQPV upends Bulldogs

PAYNESVILLE -- Lac qui Parle Valley, winless a year ago, won its third straight game Friday, beating Paynesville 40-26 in West Central South Conference football.

Lac qui Parle Valley took over the lead alone in the conference with a 3-0 mark. See standings on Page B-3.

The Eagles (3-1 overall) led 33-26 with 33 seconds left after Paynesville (2-1, 2-2) scored on a Jason Kampsen six-yard pass to Tanner Wendroth.

The Bulldogs tried an onside kick, but Ryan Hoium scooped it up and ran 50 yards for the game's final touchdown.

The Eagles rushed for only 41 yards, but passed for 224.

Paynesville had 149 yards on the ground and 175 through the air. The Bulldogs trailed 13-0 after the first quarter, then scored 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to take the lead on a six-yard run by Josh Bungum, a 10-yard touchdown pass from Kampsen to Wendroth and a 19-yard pass from Kampsen to Justin Frank.

Chase Keimig ran for two touchdowns and passed for another for LQPV.
