Montevideo native Christensen wins award for BSU

Bemidji State University freshman and Montevideo native Elissa Christensen has been named the Beavers' Defensive Player of the Year for the 2011 season.

Bemidji State University freshman and Montevideo native Elissa Christensen has been named the Beavers' Defensive Player of the Year for the 2011 season.

A walk-on from Montevideo High School, she began the season as a key bench player but assumed the role of the team's libero halfway through the season. She finished her freshman campaign with 223 digs. Christensen's best defensive game came with 24 digs versus Minnesota, Crookston on Nov. 25. She finished the season with double-figure digs in six of the last seven matches.
