BRAINERD -- Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa got a taste of what it's been serving to opponents for many years. The Jaguars were swept by Nevis 25-18, 25-17, 25-20 in the Section 5A championship on Saturday.
It marked the first time this season that BBE was swept in a best-of-five match all season.
Nevis moves on to the Class A state tournament that begins on Thursday at Xcel Energy Center. BBE, bidding for a third straight trip to state, finished the season with a 27-6 record. It was the seventh consecutive season the Jaguars have won 20-or-more matches. During that stretch, the Jaguars have gone 193-32.
Maggie Gruber had 11 kills for BBE in 32 swings. Rachel Anderson delivered six kills. Gruber, Brittany Roelike and Julie Hieserich had two ace serves apiece. Hieserich was credited with 22 assists. Raeann Sorenson led the team with 11 digs.
