NEW LONDON -- Three players scored in double figures for New London-Spicer and another Wildcat was close to joining that group as NLS handed Sauk Centre its first loss by collecting a 45-41 win Tuesday to earn a share of the West Central North Conference girls basketball title.
Sauk Centre (15-1, 23-1) had beaten NLS (15-1, 23-2) 63-58 on Jan. 19 in Sauk Centre. The top-ranked Mainstreeters will still host the West Central Inter-Conference championship on Thursday against South champion Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.
The No. 2 Wildcats were 12-for-21 from inside the arc and shot 50 percent (5-for-10) from three-point range while Sauk Centre was 14-for-46 (30.4 percent) from the field, including 6-for-25 on three-pointers.
"We had all five (three-pointers) in the first half and that got us the lead," said NLS coach Mike Dreier. "We jumped out early and part of that was the three-ball.
"We tried to defend their three-point shooters (better than last time) and they had looks, but they didn't make as many this time."
