NLS takes title alone

NEW LONDON -- The New London-Spicer boys basketball team secured the West Central North Conference boys basketball title with a 91-79 win over Foley Thursday.

NEW LONDON -- The New London-Spicer boys basketball team secured the West Central North Conference boys basketball title with a 91-79 win over Foley Thursday.

In a mad dash that saw the Wildcats (15-0, 24-1) take a 48-39 halftime lead, NL-Spicer sank seven 3-pointers. The Wildcats made five straight treys in as many possessions in the first half to take a 24-20 lead.

Erik Tengwall led the charge with four 3-pointers and 18 points in the first 18 minutes. He finished with a team-high 28 points. Justin Zylstra contributed 15 of his 18 points in the first half, also.

Aaron Johnson added 16 points and Aaron Jenny had 10. Zylstra and Jenny pulled down nine rebounds each and Tengwall dished out six assists.

Erik Oines scored 26 points for Foley (8-6, 12-9). Aaron Zimmer added 25 points.
