No. 7 Minneota ends No. 10 YME Sting's season

Read how the Vikings beat the Sting 71-54 in Section 3A-North game

MINNEOTA —The seventh-seeded Minneota boys basketball team beat 10th-seeded Yellow Medicine East 71-54 Thursday night in a Section 3A-North playoff game.

The Vikings play No. 2 MACCRAY at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Montevideo. There is a full schedule of games at Montevideo High School. The schedule:

  • At 11 a.m. Saturday, top-seeded Central Minnesota Christian plays the No. 8 Wabasso Rabbits.

  • At 12:30 p.m., the No. 4 Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks play No. 5 Renville County West.

  • At 4 p.m. No. 3 Lac qui Parle Valley faces No. 6 Lakeview.

Against YME, Minneota led 37-27 at halftime. The Vikings shot 44 percent (26 of 58) from the field and made 14 of 33 free throws (42 percent).
YME shot 38 percent (21 of 54) from the field and 54 percent (6 of 11) from the foul line.

Jacob Citerman had 20 points to lead Minneota.

Senior guard Carter Sneller had 26 points, seven rebounds and three steals to pace YME.

Hutchinson picked up a tough road win at Litchfield in the Wright County Conference West Division match-up.

Sam Rensch had 13 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals to lead the Tigers, who also got 14 points from Zachary Kuseske and 12 from Russel Corrigan.

For Litchfield, Avery Liestman had 13 points. He was the only Dragon in double figures.

Sophomore guard Alex Call, a University of Arizona baseball recruit, led KMS with 28 points. He also had nine rebounds, two assists and three steals for the Fighting Saints.
