BISMARCK, N.D. — The Willmar Stingers’ five-run top of the sixth inning wasn’t enough to counteract the Bismarck Larks’ own big inning.

Bismarck pushed seven runs across on seven hits and one error in the bottom of the fourth to claim an 8-7 Northwoods League victory Friday night at Bismarck Municipal Ballpark.

In front of 1,901 fans, the Larks had a pair of two-run hits in the fourth. Luke Glascoe poked a double into left field, scoring Jake Hjelle and Bradlee Preap. Then with two outs, Kaiden Cardoso brought home Khalid Collymore and Luke Glascoe on a single to center.

Daryl Ruiz, a sophomore from California State-San Bernardino was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs and an RBI for Bismarck. Joseph Kalafut, a junior from Division III Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin, pulled double duty. He was 2-for-4 with an RBI and he got the win on the mound after striking out seven over 5-2/3 innings.

The Stingers put together a rally in the top of the sixth. Zach Corbin hit a bases-clearing double, followed by an Aidan Byrne RBI single. Byrne reached home on a wild pitch.

Byrne, a redshirt freshman at Minnesota State-Mankato by way of Eagan, was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs. Kyle Payne, a sophomore from Northwest Nazarene University in Idaho, went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Sam Malec was charged with the loss after tossing the first four innings. The University of Minnesota freshman from Woodbury, had four strikeouts with no walks and 10 hits allowed.
