WILLMAR — Just the third batter of the game, Mac Horvath provided everything the Rochester Honkers needed against the Willmar Stingers .

Horvath, a Rochester native and freshman from the University of North Carolina, hit a two-run home run to left field in the first inning of Tuesday’s Northwoods League game. That was enough for the Honkers to leave Bill Taunton Stadium a 2-1 winner in front of a crowd of 874 fans.

Finishing Tuesday’s game 2-for-3, Horvath is batting .314 this season for Rochester (12-14). Zack Raabe and Cole Fontenelle also had a hit apiece for the Honkers.

Willmar’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth. Carter Howell led the inning off with a walk, and William Hamiter followed that up with a single. Kaden Hopson brought Howell home on a groundout.

Hamiter, a redshirt freshman from the University of Alabama, had both of the Stingers’ hits, boosting his batting average to .328.

On Wednesday, Willmar (13-17) will play host to the Bismarck Larks (18-12). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. On Thursday, Bismarck and Willmar will play each other again, but the Stingers will suit up as the Alexandria Beetles as the two teams will play at Knute Nelson Memorial Field in Alexandria.
