Northwoods League: Stingers blank Bismarck

WILLMAR — As the Stingers held a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning, Will Hodo found himself in the batter’s box with the bases loaded and no outs. Then, he blasted a grand slam home run over the right field wall and Willmar’s rout of the Bismarck Larks was on.

Hodo’s grand slam, his eighth home run this season, helped fuel the Stingers to an 11-0 shutout victory over the Larks Wednesday before 1,056 fans at Bill Taunton Stadium.

A true freshman out of the University of Alabama, Hodo has tallied five home runs in his last nine contests. He went 1-for-5 with four RBIs, one run and a walk.

Jack Zigan, a senior at Minnesota State-Mankato, started on the mound for the Stingers and earned his fourth win of the season to remain undefeated. He threw seven innings, allowing three hits with one strikeout.

Graysen Tarlow helped the Stingers reach double digits for the 19th time this season. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

A redshirt freshman at California State University-Northridge, Tarlow has multi-hit performances in eight of his 11 games with the Stingers. He went 2-for-4 with two runs, a pair of stolen bases, an RBI and a walk.

Jordan Sagedahl, originally from Olivia, has hits in seven of 10 games with the Stingers. He extended his hitting streak to five, where he has nine hits over that stretch, after going 2-for-4 with one run and a stolen base.

Scott Anderson started the rout of the Larks in the third inning, hitting an RBI sacrifice fly to score Tarlow. He led the team with three hits. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a double and a stolen base.

Mitch Gutknecht entered for Zigan and pitched two relief innings. He struck out three, allowing one hit.

The Stingers (25-6 second half; 46-19 overall) will look to earn their 18th series sweep of the season when they take on the Larks at 7:05 p.m. Thursday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
