Northwoods League: Stingers clinch playoffs, split series with Duluth

Willmar clinched with win Saturday over Huskies.

DULUTH — The Duluth Huskies rattled off four runs in the ninth inning en route to a 7-6 comeback victory over the Stingers to split the series Sunday.

With the game knotted at 6-6 with two outs, Cam Frederick’s only hit of the game came up huge for the Huskies. He hit a walk-off RBI single to score Jared Mettam, cementing their win.

Joe Vos, Eddie Satisky and Jonathan Vastine scored the other three runs in the ninth.

Vastine led the Huskies at the plate. He went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, a double and an RBI.

Vos tied Vastine for a team-high two runs, leading the Huskies with two walks.


Isaac Rohde, Mason Burns and Isaiah Piscitello each pitched one inning, allowing one hit and zero runs with one strikeout each.

Willmar started strong right out of the gate with a five-run first inning. Jordan Sagedahl hit his first home run in a Stingers uniform, a two-run blast with two outs. Joey Walls and Scott Anderson added RBI doubles.

Sagedahl hit his second home run of the evening – a solo shot – in the sixth inning on a 3-1 count.

Graysen Tarlow and Walls led the Stingers with three hits. Sagedahl led the team with three RBIs and two runs.

The Stingers (23-5 second half, 44-18) will take on the La Crosse Loggers on the road Monday and Tuesday. Both games are at 6:35 p.m. at Copeland Park.

The Stingers clinched a spot in the Northwoods League playoffs with their win at Duluth.


Seth Miller earned his first win on the mound this season. He pitched six innings with two strikeouts, allowing nine hits and four earned runs.

Willmar’s very own Drey Dirksen led the Stingers with three RBIs. He went 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Drew Sagedahl, Brett Bateman and Dalton Pearson all had two hits. Sagedahl hit two doubles and scored a run. Bateman and Pearson each scored a run. Pearson also stole a base.

Brian Baker earned his second save this season. He closed out the game in the ninth, allowing one hit and recording one strikeout.
