LA CROSSE, Wis. — It’s 12 in a row and counting for the Willmar Stingers.
Willmar won its 12th straight game with a 14-4 victory Monday night over the La Crosse Loggers before 1,750 fans at Copeland Park.
The Stingers remain the hottest team in the Northwoods League, improving their second-half record in the Great Plains West Division to 20-3 and 41-16 overall. Willmar has a four-game lead on first-half champion St. Cloud (17-8, 42-16). La Crosse (11-12, 27-30) is in second place in the Great Plains East.
This one was memorable for the Stingers because Andrew Baumgart recorded his first win for his hometown team. The left-hander from North Dakota went 5-1/3 innings, allowing five hits, striking out two and walking three to improve his record to 1-1.
It was also a big game for one of the newest Stingers, Jordan Sagedahl. The second baseman from BOLD High School and South Dakota State was recently signed after being released by the Bismarck Larks. On Monday, he went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, a run and two RBIs. He is batting .400 (2 of 5) in two games, getting his first action Sunday.
