Northwoods League: Willmar Stingers' offensive surge continues

Willmar puts up another big effort with a 16-6 win over the Mankato MoonDogs.

WILLMAR — Another day, another football-like score for the Willmar Stingers.

The Stingers beat Mankato 16-6 before 1,021 fans Friday night at Bill Taunton Stadium. The victory comes one night after Willmar beat the MoonDogs 21-14.

This night, the Stingers managed 19 hits with six players having multiple-hit games. Graysen Tarlow and Zac Corbin led the way.

Tarlow, batting second as the designated hitter, went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. The redshirt freshman from Cal State-Northridge is now batting .522 since arriving in Willmar, going 12-for-23 in six games with three doubles and nine RBIs.

Corbin went 3-for-5 with two runs, a double, two RBIs and a walk. The left fielder from Kennesaw State is batting .313 (47 of 150) with 43 runs, three homers, 32 RBIs and 12 stolen bases in 38 games. He has a .422 on-base percentage and .473 slugging percentage.


Will Hodo, the first baseman from Alabama, homered for the Stingers, his sixth of the year.

Willmar continues to lead the Northwoods League’s Great Plains Division in the second half with a 22-4 record, 4-1/2 games ahead of the St. Cloud Rox, who won the division’s first-half title. The Stingers are 43-17 overall. Mankato drops to 15-11 in the second half and 34-26 overall.

Willmar is back on the road. The Stingers play the Duluth Huskies at 3:05 p.m. Saturday at Wade Stadium.
