WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. - Willmar Stingers closer Brady Anderson switched roles for the Northwoods League All-Star Game, getting the start and taking the loss as the South won 2-1 on Tuesday at Witter Field.
All three runs scored in the first inning before the game settled into a pitcher’s duel.
Anderson, who recently tied the all-time NWL record with 32 saves and playing in his third All-Star Game, allowed a double to La Crosse’s Mason McCoy leading off the bottom of the first after being staked a 1-0 lead on Luke Stratman’s solo home run in the top half.
McCoy took third on a wild pitch and Eric Filia walked to put runners on the corners.
The South notched their first run on a sacrifice fly to score McCoy, and Filia came around to score on a two-out error by North third baseman Stratman.
Willmar All-Stars Dan Motl and Storm Wilson both started and went 0-for-4 and 0-for-3, respectively.
Dakota Belter pitched one-third of an inning and retired the only batter he faced.
Wilson also participated in the NWL Home Run Derby, which was won by Rochester’s Joe Deroche-Duffin.
