WILLMAR - Will Lydon won his fifth game of the season and Lucas Tancas hit a key two-run homer as the Willmar Stingers beat the Alexandria Blue Anchors 4-3 on Tuesday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
Willmar held onto a one-game lead in the Northwoods League North Division ahead of the Rochester Honkers and St. Cloud Rox who are in a second-place tie.
The Stingers scored three of their four runs in the fourth when Storm Wilson got hit by a pitch to leadoff the inning and stole second, his 12th swipe of the year.
Blue Anchors’ starter Thomas Watson nearly escaped unscathed fanning the next two batters, but Tyler Leffler singled to score Wilson, and Tancas followed with his second home run of the season to put Willmar up 3-1.
Lydon continued his stellar start the season, improving his record to 5-0 with eight strikeouts and two walks. The three runs Lydon allowed raised his season ERA to 1.03.
Jonathan Lycan and Brady Anderson continued to be tough out of the bullpen, each pitching a clean inning of relief.
Brian Pruett singled in the eventual winning run with sixth-inning single.
Willmar hits the road again today, playing 7:05 p.m. at Alexandria.
