WATERLOO, Iowa - The Willmar Stingers put it all together in a big way on Friday night against Waterloo.
Starting pitcher Brian Kehner was virtually unhittable through seven innings and the Stingers’ offense blasted 14 hits off five Waterloo arms in an 11-1 Northwoods League victory at Riverfront Park.
The Stingers have won three straight North Division games and are 8-2 in their last 10. The North first-half champions are 13-7 in the second half and trail division-leading St. Cloud (15-6) by 1-1/2 games.
Willmar opens a two-game set at Mankato at 6:05 p.m. today at Franklin-Rogers Park.
Willmar’s Eddie Estrada upped his batting average to .313 with three hits on Friday. He also drove in five runs, giving him 16 for the season.
Billy Quirke also had three hits, and Storm Wilson was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and he also scored twice.
Reagan Fowler and Ky Parrott both had two hits and drove in runs, Brian Pruett had two RBIs and Sean Beesley was 2-for-4 and scored twice.
It all seemed like overkill the way Kehner was pitching. He allowed just two hits in seven innings, issuing no walks while striking out six. Relievers Jason Ortiz and Quinn Kelly took care of the final two innings, allowing just a hit and one walk.
