NWL: Stingers take 2 from Rox

ST. CLOUD -- The Willmar Stingers continued to get outstanding starting pitching, this time from Zach Strecker, and shut down the St. Cloud Rox 6-1 on Sunday at Joe Faber Field.

ST. CLOUD - The Willmar Stingers continued to get outstanding starting pitching, this time from Zach Strecker, and shut down the St. Cloud Rox 6-1 on Sunday at Joe Faber Field.
Sean Beesley and Ky Parrott each had two hits, and Parrott knocked an RBI single in the fifth inning during a three-run rally that saw two more runs score on consecutive wild pitches by St. Cloud’s Andy Sykes.
The Stingers also scored twice in the fourth on Danny Palmiscno’s RBI single and Brian Pruett’s fielder’s choice.
Strecker scattered three hits for one run and struck out five over six innings, and Tyler Heitmann recorded a three-inning save.
The Stingers moved into a tie for fourth place and are 10-8 in the Northwoods League North Division. They next play 6:05 p.m. today at Thunder Bay.

Willmar 4, St. Cloud 3
WILLMAR - Bradley Bailey held St. Cloud to two hits and an unearned run and Willmar edged St. Cloud 4-3 on Saturday at Bill Taunton Stadium.
The Rox touched up closer Brady Anderson for four hits and two runs in the ninth, but he struck out Kyle Serrano to end the game with the tying run on second.
Dan Motl and Troy Dixon drove in runs during the Stingers’ three-run third inning, and Storm Wilson scored the eventual winning run on a balk on Rox starter Reed Pfannenstein.
