WILLMAR - The Willmar Stingers won their fourth straight game - third against Alexandria - winning both ends of a doubleheader 7-6 and 7-4 on Wednesday.
Sean Beesley stole four bases and Storm Wilson drove in three runs in the nightcap, and Zach Strecker won his sixth game.
The Stingers batted around in the second to take an early lead, scoring three runs on Tyler Leffler’s RBI single, an error, and Wilson’s RBI sacrifice fly.
Two more came in in the fifth on hits from Wilson and Reagan Fowler.
Strecker struck out four over six innings, while allowing nine hits and three walks.
The Stingers’ defense was up to the task, though, helping Strecker and a trio of relievers to strand 16 Alexandria runners.
Leffler and Beesley each notched two hits, but Eddie Estrada’s hitting streak ended at 10 games.
Beesley’s four steals brought him to 32 on the season, putting him two behind NWL leader Caleb Ratzman of Green Bay.
In Game 1, Leffler drove in the go-ahead run with a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning.
Dan Motl led off the game with a home run, his second homer of the season, and Fowler had three hits.
Jonathan Lycan picked up the win in relief, his first of the year.
Brady Anderson saved both games, giving him a league-leading 15.
