GRANITE FALLS - Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City’s Brody Larson tossed a two-hitter with nine strikeouts to open a West Central Conference doubleheader with Yellow Medicine East Tuesday and a three-run frame in the second game helped the Falcons with both games 2-1 and 5-4.
David Kinzler scored on an error and a Larson single knocked in Jordan Nelson in the first inning to give ACGC a quick 2-0 lead in the opener. YME pulled within one in the fourth when Dylan Johnson doubled and scored on Joe Sannerud’s sacrifice fly, but Larson had the upper hand in a pitcher’s duel with YME’s Austin Vikander.
Sannerud later supplied a two-run single to highlight a three-run first for the Sting in Game Two, but ACGC scored twice in the bottom half of the frame and later scored three times in the fourth to complete the sweep.
Larson singled in a run after a couple YME errors in the fourth before striking out the final two batters in the Sting fifth to save Kinzer’s victory.
ACGC hosts Benson today at 3:30 p.m. in Atwater and YME is at Sauk Centre on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
