SPICER — Led by the arm of Eli Nelson and the bats of Grayson Fuchs and Drew Tangen, the Paynesville baseball team picked up a 12-1 non-conference win in five innings over New London-Spicer at the Green Lake Diamonds.

Nelson gave up just one hit — a fifth-inning single — in a complete-game effort.

It was the Wildcats that scored first after a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the first inning. Then in the top of the third, Fuchs put the Bulldogs up for good with a three-run home run over the fence in left-center field. He finished the day with three hits while Tangen had two hits, including a bases-clearing double.

With the victory, Paynesville has won three straight and is 7-3 overall. NLS drops to 2-8.

The Bulldogs travel to Elrosa on Tuesday for a Central Minnesota Conference doubleheader against Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. The Wildcats also have a doubleheader on Tuesday, hosting Rockford.
