MONTEVIDEO - The Montevideo baseball team ran its West Central Conference record to 6-3 with a pair of one-run victories over Melrose on Tuesday.
The Thunder Hawks’ Ricky Schmitz doubled in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of a 5-4 win over the Dutchmen in Game One.
In Game Two, Jordan Thompson worked a complete game, striking out six and not allowing a walk in a 2-1 T-Hawks victory.
In the seventh inning of the first game, Markus Kranz and Thompson hit one-out singles to set up Schmitz’ game-winner.
In the second game, Thompson allowed three first-inning hits but only two more the rest of the way. The T-Hawks committed back-to-back errors to put runners on first and second with one out, but Thompson got the Dutch to hit two infield pop outs to end the game.

Montevideo, which is 8-4 overall, is set to play at Sauk Centre at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Morris/CA drops a pair
The Morris/Chokio-Alberta baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader to Sauk Centre on Tuesday in Morris.

The Mainstreeters defeated the Tigers 16-4 in five innings in the first game, but they needed extra innings to win Game Two, edging MCA 9-8 with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning.

New London-Spicer took a one-run lead in the first inning but the game got away from the Wildcats at that point, with Glencoe-Silver Lake scoring nine runs in the second and third innings and taking home a 12-3 victory on Tuesday at Green Lake Diamond.
GSL’s Levi Vorlicek was 3-for-5 and he also got credit for the win, despite walking seven Wildcats in five innings. He struck out five.
Trey Austvold was 2-for-2 and Brett Olson drove in two Wildcat runs. Eben Pederson and Ian Anderson had the other NLS hits.
The Wildcats are 0-4 in the Wright County Conference and 1-5 overall. They play a doubleheader against Dassel-Cokato at 4 p.m. Thursday at Saints Field in Dassel.

Braeden Wahl and Eddie Estrada both had two hits and combined to drive in three runs in the Dragons’ Wright County Conference win Tuesday at Optimist Field in Litchfield.
Estrada was 2-for-2 with a triple and he also scored twice. Wahl was 2-for-3 and Jake Schultz had a hit on his only trip, driving in a run and he scored two runs.
Austin Larson worked five innings, striking out four, for the win, and Ross Wendlandt worked two innings and struck out two.

The Wolverines (5-0, 8-2) scored three in the top of the seventh on two walks, an error, two hits and a squeeze play.
LQPV nearly tied it up, loading the bases down 6-4 with one out. The Eagles’ fifth run scored on a groundout, but they couldn’t push the tying run across.
Moffenbier allowed two earned runs and struck out seven.
Hard-luck loser Brandon Hill also pitched a complete game with two earned runs, and struck out 11.
