Prep Baseball: Paynesville outlasts Waska in 9 innings

GLENWOOD -- Jon Kerzman's double to left-center field in the top of the ninth drove in the eventual winning run as Payneville edged Minnewaska 8-7 in a West Central South Conference baseball game on Tuesday.

With one out, Aaron Savelkoul reached first base on a fielder's choice, stole second and then scored on Kerzman's hit. Savelkoul pitched the ninth inning for the save, striking out the side.

In the seventh, Jake Deadrick hit a three-run homer to left to give the Bulldogs (9-2, 10-3) a 7-5 lead, but the Lakers (5-5, 6-7) answered with two runs on a Paynesville throwing error at home plate.

In the eighth, Minnewaska's Mike Whittemore's long fly ball that could have won the game was caught a foot in front of the fence.

A seven-run rally in the top of the second inning helped the Tigers stave off the Braves' late comeback attempt.

Dustin Sauter and Darrick Henrichs had two hits each for Morris (5-4, 6-6). Nate Gades drove in three runs and Sauter two.

Benson's Kyle Pederson had two hits and drove in a run. Dan Martin doubled and drove in two runs. Andrew Ebert, Kyle Pederson and Cameron Simmonds had two hits apiece.

The Warriors belted 15 hits, led by Shawn Dollerschell, who had three hits, and Andrew Brooks with three hits and three RBI. Kyle Seehusen, Derek Smith and Jake Boersma added two hits each, with Boersma driving in four runs.

Dollerschell pitched six innings for the win, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out nine and walked one.

Derek Dyrdahl and Jordan Hagert drove in seven of the eight runs for the Sting (5-6, 6-6). Dyrdahl had a two-run double in third, and a two-run single in fourth, which gave YME a 6-4 lead. Hagert went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI.

Dylan Lindstrom earned the win with six innings pitched, seven strikeouts and three walks. Mason Hegna threw the seventh for the save.
