Prep Baseball: Paynesville sinks Montevideo, 7-4

MONTEVIDEO -- Justin Wendlandt had two hits and two RBI and Aaron Savelkoul hurled a complete game as Paynesville defeated Montevideo 7-4 in West Central South Conference baseball action on Thursday.

Ryan Tostenson slugged a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh for Montevideo, but Savelkoul got the next batter to ground out to end the game. Savelkoul allowed eight hits, walked two and struck out seven.

Jason Kampsen and Jordan Lieser had RBI hits in the third to vault Paynesville into a 4-2 lead. Wendlandt slapped a two-run single in the sixth.

A wild pitch and a Colton Vien RBI single put Montevideo up 2-0 in the first.

Vien took the loss.

Lac qui Parle Valley cranked out 12 hits, including five doubles by five different players. Sam Haas had three hits and Chase Keimig and Jacob Redepenning each drove in three runs.

Brandon Bornhorst, who had been out with a hamstring injury, returned to throw a three-hit shutout over five innings. Scott Bormann fanned the side in the sixth.

Jed Eix, Cody Jaeger and Cameron Simmonds singled for the Braves. Eix took the loss.

Minnewaska 9, Morris 3

Minnewaska got off to a quick start by getting four hits and three runs in the first inning. Shane Bosek knocked in two runs and Mike Whittemore drove in another after both singled for the Lakers (6-4, 7-6).

Morris (5-5, 8-6) got within two runs of the lead after Tanner Berning and Jon Jallo had RBI singles in the second and third, respectively. Minnewaska then put the game away by scoring four runs in the fifth, highlighted by Taylor Kollman's two-run single and Shane Bosek's RBI single.

Mitch Carbert added an RBI double in the seventh for Morris.
