PAYNESVILLE - Josh Mackedanz pitched a gem to lead Paynesville to a Game One victory and then the Bulldogs unleashed their bats in a big way in Game Two to sweep Benson in a West Central Conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
Mackedanz two-hit Benson in a 6-0 victory. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out four.
In the second game, the Bulldogs scored five first-inning runs, and wrapped up the 14-1 victory with a five-run fifth inning.
In Game One, Brandon Schleper was 2-for-3 and drove in a run and Collin Riley also had an RBI.
Logal Flegel and Adam Lindahl collected the Braves’ only hits off Mackedanz.
Nick Dingmann led the Bulldogs in Game Two. He was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs batted in, and Matt Quade was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.
Riley was 2-for-2 and had two RBIs.
Bulldogs’ pitcher Andrew Kerzman also was sharp, allowing the one run on four hits. He also didn’t walk anyone and he struck out five.
The Bulldogs are 8-3 overall. They play host to Minnewaska on Thursday.
