PAYNESVILLE -- Paynesville took a two-game lead over Minnewaska in the West Central South Conference baseball race with a doubleheader sweep of Benson Thursday.
The Bulldogs won 4-1 and 3-2.
Both Paynesville (10-3, 12-5) and Minnewaska (8-5, 9-7) have three conference games remaining. Lac qui Parle Valley, Morris and Yellow Medicine East are three games back in the loss column.
Jason Kampsen pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk to lead the Bulldogs to a win in the first game. Jordan Lieser and Eric Wolbeck had two hits each.
Jake Manska doubled and Cody Jaeger had a single for Benson's two hits.

In the second game, Josh Bungum threw a three-hitter for Paynesville, which rallied for two runs in the sixth on singles by Kampsen and Lieser to take a 3-2 lead and hold on for the win.
Lieser and Casey Hess had two hits each.

YME capitalized on an error in the seventh inning with RBI singles from Tyler Sand and Jordan Hagert to take a 5-2 lead.

Hagert paced the Sting with three hits. Derek Dyrdahl added two hits.
Dylan Lindstrom pitched the final two innings for the win. He struck out six and walked two.
Trever Heining, Hayden Rouser, Mitch Tauer and Tyler Henkelman had one hit each for the Falcons.

Lac qui Parle Valley (9-6, 11-8) scored three times in the fourth and twice in the seventh, both times after there were two outs, to hurt Minnewaska's chances of winning the conference title.
The Eagles' two runs in the seventh were unearned as a Minnewaska (8-5, 9-7) fielding error allowed Jordan Schwarz and Zach Moen to score and break a 4-4 tie. Ryan Kleven and Trenton Berg hit back-to-back doubles to pull the Lakers within one in the bottom half of the frame, but Scott Bormann got a strikeout and fly out to save the win for LQPV reliever Blair Tostenson.
Chase Keimig tripled and scored on Bormann's single and Jacob Redepenning singled in two more runs in the fourth for LQPV.
Mike Whittemore hit a two-run homer in the third to give Minnewaska a 4-0 lead.

Travis Rinkenberger drove in two runs with a double in the seventh inning to tie the game, then a muffed throw to home plate that got away from the Montevideo catcher allowed Morris (8-6, 11-6) to plate two more runs.
Montevideo (7-7, 9-8) had tied the game in the sixth on Ryan Tostenson's single. He finished with three RBI. Tyler Kuno went 3-for-3 and Troy Hendrickson went 3-for-4.
Mitch Carbert had three hits to pace the Tigers.

In the Mustangs last chance to get a victory in the regular season, they got it done with a six-run rally in the top of the seventh at Lester Prairie.
Trailing 5-2, BLH's Evan Ludowese, Ben Meiers, and Ryan Coulter supplied RBI hits with other run-scoring at bats provided by Austin Ludowese, Mason Clark and Brandon Huls.
Mason Clark went the distance on a seven-hitter for the win.
